Churihatta Fire: Charges pressed against eight persons

The charge sheet over the Churihatta fire, which killed 71 people in February 2019, was submitted to a court on Tuesday.

Officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station Inspector Abdul Kayum, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka against two owners of Wahed Mansion from where the deadly fire was originated and six others.

The accused are owners of Wahed Mansion Mohammad Hasan Sultan and Mohammad Hossain Sultan alias Sohel, owners of chemical warehouse Imtiaz Ahmed, Mozammel Iqbal, Mozaffar Uddin, Mohammad Jawad Atiq, Mohammad Nabil and Kashif.

 

The charge sheet will be placed before the court on March 23.

The fire broke out at a chemical warehouse at Wahed Mansion in Churihatta of Chawkbazar around 10:30pm on February 20, 2019. The fire also spread to neighbouring buildings.

Later, a case was filed with Chawkbazar police station in this regard.
